11/28/2023 Update: Tracy Wilkins, City of Vancouver, presented at our PAC Meeting tonight. They are exploring ways to continue this program that wouldn't require parent volunteers. With the lack of support from parents (as per last meeting's poll), they may not be extending this program next term. As mentioned, here is the presentation slide for Churchill.
SCHOOL STREETS
Pilot Program
(May 8, 2023 - June 2, 2023)
What is a School Street?
A School Street is a car-free block beside a school open to walking, biking, and rolling during pick-up and drop-off.
No vehicles are permitted to enter or exit the block when the School Street is in effect, except for emergency vehicles (fire/ambulance/police). Vehicles can remain parked.
School Streets:
Create a safer environment
Encourage active travel to school
Reduce congestion
Improve air quality
Accessibility Concerns?
54th Avenue and 57th Avenue will both remain accessible by motor vehicle as needed. Student parking lot off Laurel Street will remain accessible.

Volunteers Needed:
8:10am/2:30pm: Unlock barriers, put on vests
Position each barrier to each end of the school street
8:20am/2:40pm: Position barriers on street making sure to protect the crosswalk and leave room for cyclists to pass
8:55am/3:25pm: Move equipment off road, put vests back in box in school office and lock barriers and sandbags with cable and combination lock
